SAP is dedicated to developing a portfolio of publications to cultivate, expand and promote knowledge in and about social practice. We offer a reduced fee ISBN and distribution through SAN Partners.

Building from the vision of the Social Art Network, SAP will develop expanded critical and reflective dialogue around the work of socially engaged practice, be a platform to showcase new work, strengthen peer support for artist book distribution, and be a database of current and historic publications.

This could be an Artist Books, E-Books, Zines, Research Books, Project Archives, or any kind of publication around social art.

Not sure if your project qualifies as “Social Art”? Head to our collaborative Social Art Glossary here. The Social Art Library also has a helpful explanation,

‘Social art is a broad term, encompassing a whole range of practices and approaches including (but not limited to) socially-engaged art, community art, participatory art, collaborative art, dialogical art, relational aesthetics. When we say ‘social art’ we are referring to art that makes social relationships and structures the primary medium…instead of, or in addition to the use of material and digital media (Ravetz & Wright, 2020, p.15).’

We have some Terms & Conditions. SAP charges a fee of £50 for selected submissions. Selected publications receive an SAP ISBN and the opportunity for promotion throughout SAN partners. Artists must cover the costs of creation and production. We do not provide distribution services. Successful submissions must have a webpage with a live link for the purchase of their publication. On receipt of their ISBN, authors have 12 months to produce their publication, after which SAP reserves the right to withdraw the ISBN and assign it to someone else. Being a part of SAP requires you to respond to a written ‘Afterword’ interview for our online media outlets. You must provide SAP with 2 copies of your publication: one for our archive and one to be sent to the British Library.
